IN VITRO EFFECT OF PAROMOMYCIN CONJUGATED NANOCHITOSAN ON E. HISTOLYTICA TROPHOZOITES
Abstract
Entamoeba histolytica is a parasite of the intestinal tract that infects humans and causes inflammation of the intestinal tissues, and the infection may reach other sites, such as the liver. This study aimed to measure the effect of paromycin conjugated nano-chitosan in inhibiting the trophozoites of the parasite in vitro. Nanochitosan was prepared and the antibiotic was loaded using ultrasound and the FTIR spectroscopy was used to describe the materials prepared. Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites were grown on She medium, then the effect of the prepared material was studied using the MTT method. The results of the current study indicate the inhibitory effect of paromycin conjugated nanochitosan in inhibiting the growth of the trophozoites compared to nanochitosan and paromomycin as the IC50s were 44.41, 106.5 and 27.47 µg/mL after 24h. foe nannochitosa, paromomycin and paromomycin conjugated nanochitosan respectively.
